I love Bamboo Pens! This idea was introduced to my preschool group last year by a wonderful student teacher called Kay. Now Kay made the bamboo pens that our children used, and this post explains just how to do it. Or, they are produced commercially, Yasumoto pens, and can be purchase from art suppliers.
Personally, I loved Kay’s home-made ones!
You may have noticed that we used a heavy duty cardboard to ensure that we didn’t have too many damaged works of art!
Just beautiful! The children enjoyed experimenting with the variety of ‘lines’ achievable with the pens and some began to create visual representations such as these lovely stick figures above.
Here is a link to some inspirational art work from Vivienne Nelson using bamboo pen techniques. Enjoy! 🙂
Excellent Karen. WIll have to try making some of these for my preschoolers whenever we get the chance.
Wow! I love it! I will definitely try it! Thank you!
I’m glad you do Caroline. Good Luck! 🙂
They are great Greg, I love using them myself! You can pick the bamboo up from Bunnings! 🙂
Thanx for sharing, I just love the art work and I love the idea of the bamboo pens…will try that with my sons…never heard of bamboo pens before…thanx again! Greets from Switzerland from Carolin

What a neat idea!
I have a large bunch of bamboo that are cut in this length… i’ve been wondering what we could do with them, now I know. Was it food colouring you used, or something else?
Love it!
We call it ‘edicol dye’. I guess it is like food colouring but a lot more vibrant. 🙂
This is a wonderful sensory art activity. I am going to be frequenting your blog more often now that I have found it! Great ideas for my son. Thank you!
