We have just completed a collaborative art project that has seen all of our children connect and participate with each other demonstrating a spirit of community and cameraderie.
First we selected colours to complete some roller painting…
… followed by some collage.
Then some printing and string painting to finish off.
Both works of art are now up on display in the children’s room.
A few years ago (2009), the then 4 y.o. group created the beautiful artwork below.
They are now on display in the children’s bathroom.
Projects such as this are not just about the creative process. Most importantly, they promote the development of, “a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active civic participation” (VEYLF).
This turned out just beautiful! Often times, I find young children will stay with something much longer when they can join their friends in their work/play experience…
Thank you Deborah! You are right so right. Children are social beings and collabortive pursuits develop a sense of community and belonging as well as encouraging skills in listening to and taking on the perspective of others. Infact. the benefits are numerous! Perhaps there is a blog post right there! Thanks for dropping by Deborah! 🙂
