THE MAGIC OF CHILDREN'S PLAY!'

THE CHILDREN ADD SOME PLANTS TO OUR TUNNEL MAKEOVER

The first day of our playground makeover involved a lot of heavy duty work from our parent community.  The children loved there new tunnel slides and where really enthusiastic about planting up the garden beds.
Time to add those lovely grasses to our hill!
The children love to be involved in ‘real work’!
And to use the ‘real’ tools of the trade!
Test the slides! Yep, still good!  Then our wonderful Darryl added the retaining walls!
These lovely logs found their way to our playground, compliments of the uncle of one of our children.  Aren’t they sensational?  The children instantly gravitated towards them.  In the words of Isabelle… “Oh wow!”
We hope to incorporate a dry creek bed with these logs, and some more plants, of course!
The children now have great access to the beautiful blossoms that arrive on this tree in spring and are frequently used as decoration for their mud-pie cakes!
What a great place to perch for a bit of cooking!

    Karen,
It's nice to see the progress on your yard, and good to see your children actively taking part in the work, with real tools, they will really have a true sense that the yard belongs to them.

    What a lovely sunny day!

That is so true… the child will feel a real sense of ownership of the changes by participating in the process! 🙂

  3. I'd give my arm and leg for logs like those Karen 🙂 Watching your changes to the outdoor space makes me sad that it is taking us so long to make any progress on ours. Unfortunately our management doesnt see it as a priority 🙁

I think the hill will look lovely with the grasses.

I know how it feels when you have a vision for something better and others don't share your drive. I have been there! I am very fortunate to have a committee this year with whom the concept of a natural playscape resonates! We are on the same page! Unfortunately I am off work for two weeks following shoulder surgery… so just hoping that the momentum is maintained!?!
I think your outdoor playspace is great… but I can imagine you have many brilliant additions and changes you would like to make! Push on Jenny… you will have to 'sell' your ideas to them!

Oh, and I am sorry, I won't accept an arm and a leg… but maybe if you throw in a, ah…nah!… sorry, no deal! 🙂

  6. Hey Karen, I found a picture you might like of a tunnel in a play space with natural grasses:
