THE MAGIC OF CHILDREN'S PLAY!'

PLAYDOUGH WEBS

We decided our spider friendly children might be inspired by a supply of black playdough, joggle eyes, and black pipe cleaners.
We also strategically placed some “googled” images of “orb webs” on the table as a provocation.
… and sure enough, the children were drawn to the table.
As you can see, some very clever representations of orb webs were created!
A very common catch cry heard around our preschool is “Let’s google it!”
We often google images to help answer the many questions our children pose.

THE SPIDER GAME

The spider game was a  huge hit with our children.  All it requires is a ball of wool. some masking tape and a spider (preferably not a real one).
The children take turns in carrying the wool to a friend across the circle… and the spider web materialises!
Initially we started off with simple webs.  But as the children got the idea of the game, they wanted to continue building the web into a mass of threads.
When the children were ready, a spider was strategically placed ready to pounce…
And the children had to tip-toe through the web, taking care not to stand on the ‘sticky’ strands.
Cheers were given when friends successfully made it through unscathed!
This game was inspired by the children’s interest in making sticky tape webs and playdough webs.

STIPEY TAKE WEBS!

It all started in the block corner, two boys with an interest in spiderman and web making.  Initially cities were built, with sticky tape webs stretching from one building to another.  But eventually, the buildings were forgotten, and the webs became their focus.
Spiders were drawn, cut out and attached along the length of the stick webs.
The children’s designs became very intricate and the children struggled with the thought of taking them down to make way for the 3 y.o. groups to use the block corner.
Lot’s of discussion and problem-solving took place as the children pondered the problem.  They decided that their webs needed to be located up high, out of reach of the 3 y.o’s little hands.  As they had investigated the shape of ‘orb webs’, they decided that they could make their webs inside hula hops and hang them up above the block corner.
Little webs were popping up everywhere!
The children carefully designed and worked on their webs.
Plans were made.
Spiders were created….
… and added to the webs.
And spiderman returned!
But wait! It didn’t all end there!
